BookGate Support
The short answer
Email BookGate Support at hello@bookgate.app. Include your iPhone model, iOS version, BookGate version from Settings, and what happened. BookGate Support can help diagnose app problems and receive feedback, but cannot retrieve data that existed only on your device or issue App Store refunds; Apple handles purchases and billing.

Email BookGate supportWhat to include
The following usually makes a problem much easier to reproduce:
- your iPhone model;
- your iOS version;
- the BookGate version shown in the About card near the bottom of BookGate Settings;
- what you expected, what happened instead, and the steps that led to it;
- the wording of any message you saw; and
- a screenshot, if it does not contain anything you would rather keep private.
Never send an Apple Account password, Screen Time passcode, payment-card details or any other secret. BookGate does not upload your app data with a support request. An email contains only what you choose to put in it.
The reading alarm did not ring
BookGate requires an iPhone running iOS 26 or later and an active trial or subscription for the reading alarm. In BookGate, check that the alarm is on, the intended days are selected, and the displayed time is correct. If BookGate says alarm access is off, follow its button to iOS Settings and turn Alarms on for BookGate.
The iPhone must also be switched on and charged. Although the reading alarm is designed to ring through Silent mode and Focus, it still depends on iOS and should never be used as the only alarm for anything important. If these checks are correct, email the details above.
Selected apps were not shielded
App shielding needs Apple’s Screen Time / Family Controls permission. In BookGate Settings, tap Blocked apps under During a session and check the selection. If BookGate says access is needed, open iOS Settings → Screen Time, allow BookGate under the apps with Screen Time access, then try the picker again before the next session.
The shield applies only while a reading session is active. Choosing End Early on the session screen removes every shield immediately. BookGate receives anonymous selection tokens from Apple; it is not shown which apps you use and cannot produce an app-usage log.
The camera or microphone is unavailable
The camera is used to begin with a physical book and to create that night’s private journal photo. If camera access is unavailable, allow it in iOS Settings or choose Start without the camera in BookGate. The reading session can still count.
The microphone is used only for the optional spoken takeaway after a session. You can skip the takeaway or allow microphone access in iOS Settings. Journal photos and recordings stay on the iPhone and are not uploaded to BookGate.
Restore, cancel or refund a subscription
If a paid subscription is missing, choose Restore purchases in BookGate while signed in to the Apple Account that made the purchase. Apple processes BookGate subscriptions, so BookGate never receives your payment details and cannot change a charge or approve a refund.
Deleting BookGate does not cancel its subscription.
Missing books, photos or takeaways
BookGate has no account and keeps none of your reading data on a server. Books, journal photos, spoken takeaways and reading history are stored on the device. That keeps them private, but it also means support cannot look them up or restore them after they have been deleted. If the data is no longer on the iPhone or in your own device backup, BookGate Support does not have another copy.
Privacy and terms
BookGate sends anonymous usage statistics — which screens are reached and whether sessions are completed — that contain no books, photos, recordings or anything identifying you. For exactly what they cover, along with device-only storage, permissions and the website, read the privacy policy. Subscription terms, limitations and Apple’s standard licence are covered in the terms of use.
